Ekanger Fantini arkitekter is a Norwegian architectural practice working with cultural heritage, historic environments and landscapes. We develop contemporary architecture in sensitive contexts, from transformation and adaptive reuse to new buildings in established settings. Our work begins with a careful reading of each place: its rooms and spatial structure, materials, light, use, memories and regulatory framework. Before proposing interventions, we seek to understand the site’s capacity for change: what can be altered, what should be carried forward, and how we can strengthen the character and identity.
We work through analogy rather than imitation. New interventions should not copy the old, nor seek contrast for its own sake. They should grow from what is already there: space, materials, proportions, light and traces of use, while clearly belonging to our own time. The office guides projects from early analysis and concept development through planning, approvals, detailing and construction. We work across scales for public and private clients, with an emphasis on durable architecture rooted in each place, supporting future use while carrying forward the character and identity of each place.
